Fans will get to fully explore the world of Atlantis in October 2018 as Warner Bros. has officially staked out a release date of October 5, 2018 for the James Wan-directed Aquaman, according to Deadline.
The stand-alone film, coming out in both 3D and IMAX, further explores the aquatic hero Arthur Curry/Aquaman played by Jason Mamoa after he made his cinematic debut in a small cameo roll in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and takes on a bigger role in November 2017’s Justice League. Amber Heard is also starring in the film, after appearing in Justice League as well, as Mera the wife of Aquaman and Queen of Atlantis in the comics.
The date will make Aquaman the seventh film in the DC Extended Universe following Man of Steel (2013), Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Suicide Squad (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), Justice League (2017) and The Flash (2018).
Currently, The Flash has a March 16, 2018 release date but with the recent loss of another director and the fact that Warner Bros. and MGM recently placed the Tomb Raider reboot film in that slot it’s likely the film’s date will change.
Placing Aquaman in that October 2018 date isn’t a surprise since Warner Bros. previously grabbed that date and November 1, 2019, for untitled DC movies. Speculation had the Ben Affleck starring, written and directed standalone Batman as a possibility in one of those dates or even the rumored green lit Man of Steel sequel.
