SDCC: “Thor: Ragnarok” props confirm adaptation of “Planet Hulk” storyline

Once it was announced that Mark Ruffalo would be next reprising his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk in next year’s Thor: Ragnarok, most fans were hoping that maybe in some way that would allow the popular Planet Hulk storyline a chance to happen. Then Marvel announced that indeed there would be elements of that story making their way into the film which is described by many as a buddy film with Thor and Hulk

Now we can see some of that Hulk storyline, as the replica props of the digitally created armor and weapons that the Gladiator Hulk will wear are on display at San Diego Comic Con. Marvel Digital Media Executive Editor Ryan Penagos shared a video of the props.

Penagos also went on to share some closer images of the props.

For those not as familiar with the original comic book Planet Hulk storyline, the story found some of Marvel’s biggest heroes banishing Hulk to space because he was deemed too dangerous. Crash landing on the planet Sakaar, Hulk was pulled into a Gladiator ring where he and other aliens were forced to fight. Eventually, the Hulk and his allies, known as the Warbound, broke free and defeated the Red King and Hulk became the new King of Sakaar.

How many parts of that storyline will fit into the overall story of Ragnarok, the word basically being the apocalypse and end of times for the Norse Gods, is unclear at the moment.

Thor: Ragnarok arrives on November 3, 2017.
