First Look: Pottermore shares Potter family photos from “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”

Grab your wands and robes, J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore shared some first look photos of Jamie Parker, Poppy Miller and Sam Clemmett as Harry Potter, Ginny Potter and Albus Severus Potter respectively from the new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two.

Opening July 30 at the Palace Theatre in London, the new play picks up where the books and films left off in the epilogue of Harry and his friends all being much older with jobs and children they are sending off to Hogwarts.

Harry’s familiar Hogwarts robes might be gone, but his iconic scar and glasses are here to stay.

“He’s wearing a suit because he’s a Ministry man, but he’s not just a bloke in a suit, that’s way too anonymous. And it sounds strange but we talked around a lot of different suits, because there are suits and suits, and a lot of them we put on and we went ‘Mmm it’s just not right,'” Parker said. “With all the character’s costumes we want them to be instantly familiar when people see them, so that people feel like the story’s safe in our hands, and that we’re taking that responsibility seriously.”

While Rowling said that Parker “simply is Harry now” and that “he gets it so right,” she also raved about Miller and Clemmett’s work as Ginny and Albus.

“I think a lot of people would like to have Poppy’s Ginny for a mother,” Rowling said. “Kind and cool, exactly as I imagined her.”

In speaking about Clemmett and Albus, Rowling confirmed that just like her books, there are secrets that will be revealed.

’There’s much I could say about Sam-as-Albus, but we’d be into spoiler territory so quickly I’ll just say we couldn’t have cast better,” Rowling said.

There are expected to be more photos of cast members shared throughout the week as the first preview of the play is a week away.
