Apparently DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns is so sure you’ll enjoy the upcoming DC Universe: Rebirth #1 one-shot that he’s putting a money back guarantee on the issue.
Talking to ComicBook.com, Johns spoke about the issue he wrote with art from Gary Frank, Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Phil Jimenez and others and how the entire line at the comic publisher will be affected by it and how positive he is that people will be happy with the changes.
“It’s $2.99 for 80 pages. It’s not a lot,” Johns said to ComicBook.com. “If anyone wants to check out comics, wants to check out DC Universe Rebirth #1 and doesn’t like it, they can mail [the comicbook] to Warner Bros., to me, and I will send them a check, I literally will, for both postage and for the book. I will buy all these books back because I believe in this issue a lot. I think it’ll do very well. I hope it does well. But I seriously will, I’ll buy back this book.”
The Rebirth one-shot is the precursor to an entire line wide relaunch at DC Comics, one said to be more about reclaiming the legacy that was lost during their 2011 complete line reboot known as the New 52. Johns has also gone on record to say that the one-shot and relaunches will bring back the “hope and optimism” that he believes is important to DC Comics, something which he is also on record saying he’ll be bringing to the DC films now that he’s been asked to co-head those films.
Even with spoilers that have leaked out about the book, the majority of reviews that have come from outlets that were given early copies have been positive making it pretty clear that Johns probably won’t be spending much of his own money in the long run. Though there are likely to be a couple out there that will send it back to just to be able to frame a Geoff Johns check.
DC Universe: Rebirth #1 goes on sale May 25.
