DC Comics launches four new “Suicide Squad” stories in August

At this point it’s common practice for comic book companies to put out new content or release new editions of old content that are based around properties of theirs that are hitting the big screen, and DC Comics Suicide Squad won’t be any different.

DC Entertainment announced that they’ll be pumping out plenty of new fresh Suicide Squad content in August just in time for the blockbuster film debut. Part of the content is the already announced Suicide Squad title by Rob Williams, Phillip Tan and Jim Lee ongoing series, as well as the Suicide Squad: Rebirth #1 that kicks it off, but the big news is a brand new miniseries and the return of writer John Ostrander to the squad.

Ostrander will write Suicide Squad for the first time in a decade in the Suicide Squad: War Crimes Special #1, which DC describes as his “boldest and bloodiest stories ever.”

DC’s new miniseries will be done differently than many others as there will be a main story across the six issues by Jai Nitz focued on El Diablo but the second feature story will rotate characters and writer every two issues and the title will change as well. Suicide Squad Most Wanted: El Diablo and Boomerang #1 and #2 has a second story focused on Boomerang by Michael Moreci, Suicide Squad Most Wanted: El Diablo and Killer Croc #3 and #4 has a Killer Croc story by Chris Sebela and Suicide Squad Most Wanted: El Diablo and Amanda Waller has an Amanda Waller story by Vita Ayala.

All three of the back up story writers are graduates of the inagural class of DC’s Writers Workshop.

From the pages of SUICIDE SQUAD comes an all-new series featuring two of the team’s most infamous heroes, El Diablo and Boomerang! First, a sudden pardon frees the fiery El Diablo from Belle Reve prison, much to the shock (and irritation) of team leader Amanda Waller. Chato returns to his old neighborhood to reunite with his family, but when he’s attacked by a heavily armed local gang and their leader, the deadly, super-powered Bloodletter, will his freedom and his life get cut dramatically short?
Meanwhile, in the first chapter of two-part tale written by Michael Moreci (from DC’s Writers Workshop program) with art by Oscar Bazaldua, Boomerang and the Squad embark on a mission to take down a ruthless dictator within a small, unstable Central American nation, but when the mission goes awry, the Squad must jump in a helicopter and flee as all hell breaks loose. But amid the chaos, the team realizes one of them was accidentally left behind: Boomerang! How can he stay alive long enough to be rescued when a whole army wants him dead?
