Archie Comics successfully rebooted Archie and followed it up with a rebooted and relaunched Jughead series by Chip Zdarsky and Erica Henderson. As revealed by an interview with the Daily Dot, the series is about to undergo some changes.
The interview officially revealed that Zdarsky and Henderson will depart with issue eight in August, leading to Ryan North and Derek Charm taking over as the new creative team for the book featuring Archie’s food loving best friend with issue nine.
Issues one through six from Zdarsky and Henderson set a tone for the series which saw Jughead taking on the evil Principal Stanger, come out as asexual and let his imagination run wild to have adventures that included everything from time travel to superheroes. The new team will follow that up with the introduction of Sabrina the Teenage Witch into this new rebooted Riverdale universe.
In the interview, North said that he and Charm won’t be looking to overhaul what Zdarsky and Hernderson setup but things will change as the character continues to grow and the introduction of Sabrina helps with those changes.
“I see Jughead as being generally this really rational dude, this anchor of sensibility in a world of boy/girl-crazy friends,” North said in the interview. “And Sabrina’s interesting because she’s literally magic. She is an actual witch in a world where witchcraft isn’t known to be a real thing, and she’s got this edge to her that you don’t often see in Riverdale. I think Jughead’s just the kind of person who I think would be a lot of fun to see interact with that.”
Jughead #9 arrives in September 7.
